Cystic acne is one of the more severe types of acne there is and it develops in the form of cysts hence the name cystic acne. Cystic acne is also referred as nodulocystic acne, in it the cysts are filled with pus and are painful then the usual acne or other skin disorders. Acne cysts are unlike any other skin disorder in another sense as well as they are nodules of inflammation this is very rarely the case in other acne.
Cystic acne like other forms of acne is caused by an excess increase of sebum in the pores. Cystic acne can form on a number of places in the anatomy like the face, chest, back, shoulders and, occasionally, upper arms. These cysts are usually several centimeters in diameter, and can be quite painful. Varieties of treatments used to clear cystic acne include both topical and oral antibiotics, oral contraceptives and laser treatments. If cystic acne is not treated in time and is left to flourish it can cause severe scarring on the face.
